Internet security is paramount. We all are well aware of cybercrimes that have recently increased due to our overuse of the internet. With the world turning digital, and financial transactions occurring over the internet, it is extremely important to maximise user’s awareness of personal safety and security risks to private information and property associated with using internet. Also, internet safety is important to secure online transactions and while using digital wallets in mobiles.  Youngsters, especially teenagers need to protect themselves against cyberbullying to ensure mental well-being. While giving away personal or financial information on any website, check if its URL begins with ‘HTTP’. Also look for the lock icon, which indicates that the connection is secure.Never shop online over unsecured or free WiFi networks.Use unique passwords. Never keep the same password for different online accounts.Enable Secure Browsing for your social media account.Keep your computer’s Firewall ONAvoid checking ‘Keep me logged in’ or ‘Remember me’ options on websites, especially on public computers.Don’t be lazy in ensuring tight privacy settings on social media platforms. For instance, do not use your primary email address for notifications. Instead, use an email address that you do not use for important communications.Stay away from using your personal information such as name, date of birth, address, etc., as your password.When online in a public setting such as a café, airport, or even a mall, ensure no one is snooping on you.Never trust emails asking for your personal or banking information. Be extra cautious against links or attachments in unknown or unwanted emails. Verify any such communication with the sender first.Get rid of old accounts that you do not use anymore.Even though tempting, do not make your photos or videos public on social media sites.
