A whole load of reasons actually, primarily to help the consumer. Secondly, a safer phone will make it much easier for corporate to start making tie-ups with phone companies to purchase phones – corporate espionage has been a major issue in many industries, think about the spygate scandal in F1. In the end, any development that makes the phone more secure is one that should be lauded. Almost everyone has a phone, and has many personal details that can be accessed by it (location, browsing history), not just files. Biometric security on smartphones is a much needed step in making sure that the is getting smarter and safer.
